Statement from the Medical Team at HRBR, Dublin

We are deeply saddened to hear reports of the tragic death of a British man this week following a hair transplant procedure in Turkey. Our thoughts are with his family during this difficult time.

This case highlights growing concerns about the increasing number of reports of botched or unsafe hair transplant procedures being performed in some clinics abroad, particularly in Turkey but also in the UK and Ireland. These reports serve as a serious reminder of the risks associated with undergoing surgical treatments in environments where medical standards, training, and post-operative care may not meet the highest international benchmarks.

At HRBR, our foremost duty as doctors is to first, do no harm. A poorly executed transplant can leave patients not only dissatisfied but disfigured and in a far worse condition than if they had chosen to have no surgery at all. In addition, many patients may benefit from non-surgical medical treatments that can be highly effective and far less risky, particularly for those who may not have the funds or circumstances to undergo surgery safely. Many of these clinics fail to discuss these options with patients.

We stress that no patient should ever feel pressured into having a medical procedure, especially one that is not life-saving. The decision to proceed with surgery must always be the patient’s own, made after receiving thorough information about all risks, benefits, and alternatives from a qualified medical professional and never a sales person.

Finally, as with most medical interventions, you get what you pay for. High-quality hair transplant surgery requires not only expertise and experience but also strict adherence to safety protocols and aftercare. Choosing a reputable clinic with qualified medical professionals is essential to achieving both a safe and satisfactory outcome.

For those considering hair restoration treatments, we urge you to seek proper medical advice and choose a clinic where your safety and long-term well-being are the top priorities.
